Aftercare

This page provides essential information about aftercare its significance in maintaining your health and well-being. Proper aftercare helps prevent infections, promotes healing, and ensures that your experience remains positive. Following the aftercare guidelines is crucial for achieving the best results and enjoying your body piercing or modification. Remember, taking care your body is an important step in your journey.

  • Clean Hands First: Always wash hands with soap and water before touching the area.

  • Saline Spray: Use a sterile saline wound wash (e.g., NeilMed) 2-3 times daily, spraying both sides of the piercing.

  • Dry Gently: Pat dry with clean, disposable paper towels or non-woven gauze to avoid snagging and bacteria from cloth towels.

  • Shower Routine: Let warm water run over the piercing in the shower to rinse away crusties and residue from hair/skin product.

What to Avoid

  • Do Not rotate, twist, or push the jewelry, as this causes irritation and damages healing tissue.

  • Do Not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Neosporin, or iodine, as these are too harsh and delay healing.

  • Avoid sleeping directly on the piercing, which can cause it to migrate or heal crooked.

  • Avoid swimming in pools, hot tubs, or lakes for the first few weeks to prevent infection.

Signs of Healing and Care

  • Swelling: Slight bleeding, bruising, and swelling are normal, especially in the first few weeks.

  • Crusties: Light, white-yellowish crusting is normal. Clean gently with saline.

  • Downsizing: Return to your piercer to swap to shorter jewelry after 1-3 months once initial swelling subsides to prevent irritation. 

 

If you experience extreme pain, excessive swelling, or thick, green discharge, contact a professional piercer or doctor.
